Metalheads @ Into the Grave (part 2)
The Into The Grave festival is a small metal festival at a unique location, in the middle of Leeuwarden. With two stages there is plenty of room to discover new metal bands, besides the obvious headliners. This year the festival was held from June 7th to June 9th. MetalFromNL was there to make a report and take pictures. See if we captured your metalhead spirit!

Nephylim live @Into The Grave
The gentlemen of Nephylim (Melodic Death Metal) are opening the Reaper Stage on Friday. They were announced with the fact that they haven’t played together since February. However, you wouldn’t notice this at all!
They start their show off strong by headbanging in unison. They are true showmen on stage. The singer also gave the other artists their moments in the spotlight. I personally find that very nice to see, as a band is more than just the frontman.
As soon as the first notes started to play, more and more people began to gather, which is well deserved. They played really well. The only slightly annoying thing was that the frontman addressed the audience in both Dutch and English, constantly switching between the two. I think I was the only one bothered by this because the crowd went wild. Once the first mosh pit started, it continued non-stop.
This is not the first time I’ve seen Nephylim and I hope it won’t be the last. Because everything about them is just right; they sound great and look great too!
On june 8th, Ziggurath released their EP Astral Excorcism. A weird combination of Egyptian inspired black death’n roll, Astral Exorcism makes for an interesting listening session. Check it out on Spotify and check out the pictures our photographer Abyssal Void made for us below.
Graveland Festival is the place to be if you’re into (underground) death and black metal. This year’s headliners are well worth the 99 euro for a two-day festival. This years’ line-up includes Tiamat, Carcass, Dool, Necrophobic, Tsjuder and Wolves in the Throne Room, besides of course a lot of other bands and even some local legends. Jose was there for us to take some pictures and give us his impression of the festival.
The nice thing about Graveland is that it has only one stage, so you don’t have to choose which bands you want to see. That means that there are bound to be some bands that you’ve never heard of before, but make some pretty interesting music.
Deadspeak
Deadspeak describe themselves as Filthy guitars, rotting low end, pounding riffs, and atmospheric interludes. They make nasty death-metal, which is heard on their latest release ‘Tidal Disruption’. They had the honor to open for Graveland this edition, and the sure made the most of it! Their debut album will drop later this year, and they made sure we are excited for that.
More pictures below.
Deathless Void
Soul-shattering grimy black-metal…those words describe Deathless Void perfectly. Operating more in the black-metal underground, Deathless Void stepped out onto the big stage today to deliver a killer performance during Graveland Festival. The squeals from their vocalist made the hairs on our arms stand straight up, and the fire made sure we could feel a least a little bit of heat, since the weather still wasn’t great.
More pictures below.
After some metal, it’s time for food and drinks. Besides the usual stuff Graveland has some good meat too. We need that with weather like this. It’s a bit hard to find a place to actually eat the food, since it’s been raining a lot all day. After a well-deserved food break a some rest in the tent, we’re back to the festival site for some more metal.
Dool
Dool is an interesting band. Mixing dark vibes with gothic and progressive metal, we’re not sure how to label this band. And maybe we shouldn’t, with their latest album titled ‘Shape of Fluidity’. Being one of the Netherlands most well-known acts, their versatility means that they fit in well on a variety of stages.
They definitely fit the Graveland stage, as they play a very well-balanced set with plenty of crowd-pleasing songs.

Last weekend, another edition of The Metal Jam Presents was held in Wormerveer. Gutslasher, HESKEN and Black Rabbit took the stage on Saturday May 11th to raise hell in De Groote Weiver. Check out some of the pictures our photographer Rodhni took. Make sure to follow him on @abyssalvoid_photo
After the first edition of Plaguefest in Manifesto Hoorn, in honor of the Man As Plague album release last year, it was time for a second one. On friday the 10th of May, Loyalty Ends Here, Dauthuz, Man As Plague and the Belgian metalheads from Temptations for the Weak partied with the crowd in Manifesto, Hoorn. We were there to take some pictures and give these bands a listen.
Loyalty Ends Here
The guys from Loyalty Ends Here have been working hard since they won the Wacken Metal Battle last year. They didn’t get to play Wacken, but they played a whole bunch of cool festivals in the Netherlands. And they’ve been working on an EP, which will be released on May 18th during a party in P3, Purmerend.
They were opening the night, which was a bit difficult because it wasn’t as crowded yet and people needed some alcohol to get in the mood. Loyalty still gave them a good show though, with plenty of headbanging and interacting with the crowd.
Tonight the guys played a few of their new tracks as well, to get us in the mood for their EP release show. Let me tell you, the new tracks are even louder than before. Having heard some of the teasers of the upcoming EP, I know the quality of these tracks will be top-notch as well. Judging from these pictures, these guys are more than ready for the big stages.
Dauthuz
Another band that has been around a while, even though they haven’t really played much in recent months. They themselves said they were getting ‘back from the dead’ with this performance. Dauthuz is nasty – nasty riffs, nasty growls, all round death metal goodness. I hadn’t heard of these guys before, but I will definitely be looking out for a new release later this year.
Man As Plague
It’s always fun to see these guys live, ‘cause you know it will be a party. The crowd wasn’t really in the mood for one though. Even though the band really tried to get them moving, only a few of them did. That didn’t matter to Man As Plague – they still gave it everything they got, with headbanging, kicks, and a circle pit around the soundtable, led by vocalist Tim. The crowd did enjoy them, as we could hear during the ‘No Rest, No Sleep’ sing-along-song.
Temptations for the weak
Final band for the evening were the Belgian guys from Temptation for the Weak. Since I had to leave to get home on time, I didn’t get to see these guys. You can check them out on Spotify though!
