Get ready for a music induced journey back in time! Feel like you’re enjoying a party in medieval times as you step into the pub of a small harbour town that unbeknownst stands on the brink of destruction by an enemy force. Or is it? Dutch metalband Bards of Valor brings you a story of hope and ruin with their energetic, epic and straightforward super catchy folk metal about vikings, battles and booze.
6 man strong, hailing from Enschede, The Netherlands, they want to reach a diverse audience with a mix of rock and metal, heavily riddled with outspoken folk influences and catchy melodies that get stuck in your head for the remainder of the day. Their music is inspired by bands such as Heidevolk, Korpiklaani and Dropkick Murphys.
—
Rik, Robin, Michiel, Vincent and Sebas joined forces in 2015 with fun filled folk metal as starting point. After a few rehearsals they found that having a great story like the ancient bards would work best as a catalyst for creating new songs. They took a harbour village, put it in peril and tried to understand the feelings of the multitude of people involved in defending a city against a siege from enemy forces.
In 2017, they won 2nd prize at the Atak Lenteoffensief. The reward: a few hours of free studio time to record 2 wonderful demos. In October that year they added a keyboard player to the band: Charlotte. In September 2018, they started recordings for their debut album “A Tale of Hope & Ruin”, which has been released on 5 July 2019.

From The Hague, Holland hails RAGES OF SIN (R.O.S.), a deathrash act that was established back in 2009. The first few years of the band’s existence the Dutchies have tried to simply capture what excites them about song writing, performing and used their early days to create songs that RA(n)GE from thrash metal riffing to pounding death metal and some acoustic interferences that every now and then can turn progressive.
The individual band members are highly inspired by Sweden’s melodic death metal sound which is represented by bands such as Hypocrisy, Opeth and Soilwork. RAGES OF SIN however are not copycatting aforementioned acts, rather applying some of their roots and principles to their hell-bent music. Lyrically, the quartet derives their inspiration from contemporary SINners, focussing on the “WTF-factor” of what people can do to each other and their offspring. Truth really seems to be stranger than fiction…
RAGES OF SIN debuted with a self-titled self-released four track demo CD in 2010 which allowed the band to play dozens of shows in The Netherlands and abroad (Belgium, Germany and Switzerland). R.O.S. were the opening act at the (one time only) metal stage on 2015’s Schollenpop festival which allowed the RAGERS to play in front of 10.000 metal fans.
In 2018, another 4-track EP ‘The Gospel Of…’ was self-released by the band, but distributed by Pt78 Records.
2019 heralded a new creative phase, culminating in 2020 with the ambitious full length concept album ‘DIVERGENCE’. With an overall theme of things not being as they seem, reviews were unanimously positive about the sheer musical variety on the album, adding ‘Progressive’ to the ever growing list of R.O.S. style descriptors.

Von Mollestein – Order of the Fist
releasedate: february 27th 2023
Von Mollestein is a heavy force to reckon with in the Netherlands. They describe themselves as ‘Aggrotech meets black metal’. Dark, black, harsh, with the necessary industrial vibes. And not only their music is dark. Von Mollestein has a dark horror themed stage presence that translates live as well as it does in their weird, deliberately low key crazy, youtube video’s. They’ve created an image and they’re sticking with it quiet well. And whether you like it or not, Von Mollestein will trample over you no matter what.
Von Mollestein releases new album
Von Mollestein has released a new album, ‘Order of the Fist’. While we prepare to listen to this monstrosity and write a review about it, you can check it out for yourselves through all streaming platforms.
Panoptikons new artwork is awesome
Panoptikon, a groovy death/thrash band from Nijmegen, has been flying under the radar for a while. However they are still alive and kicking. Next weekend they will play Waalhella Nijmegen and for the occiasion they have created some new artwork. Check it out and let them know what you think!
Anchillys’ first live show
While there are plenty of bands to look forward too, for Anchillys Headbangers Bash will be extra special, since this will be their first live gig with the new line-up. Looking forward to seeing it live!
This is bound to be a great festival anyways, with plenty of variety of the harder kind of metal <3
Cannibalistic Sqvirrel loses a bandmember
As it happens often with bands, members come and members go. Sadly the drummer of Cannibalistic Sqvirrel has to leave, to spend more time with his other band Rotzorg. There aren’t enough metaldrummers (I know from experience) so fingers crossed these guys will find a replacement drummer soon <3
Anchillys – From solo to live band
Anchillys was previously a solo project. We were very excited about their first album (check the review here), partly because it was all one man. Luckily for us, now it’s a full band. Lucky for us, because that means they can play a live set now (which would have been difficult with Andy doin all the instruments.) The current line-up is:
– Tamás Csiszár – guitars
– Roman Gitis – guitars
– Ben de Graaff – vocals
– Mitchell Velthuizen – bass
– Andy Wit – drums (might be a familiar face )
